OBSERVING NOTES (RASC Observers Handbook 2015)

  1. Mercury is well-placed in the morning sky from the 1st to the 16th.
  2. Venus is at maximum brightness  on the 10th (mag -4.7). In conjunction with Jupiter on the 1st, separated by 0.4 deg (with almost equal disk diameters), and again on the 31st, separated by 6.4 deg. There is a close conjunction with the crescent moon on the 18th.
  3. Mars is not visible.
  4. Jupiter is low in the WNW evening twilight in Leo.
  5. Saturn is well-placed in the evening sky in Libra.
  6. Uranus rises near midnight in Pisces. Retrograde motion begins on the 26th.
  7. Neptune rises in the late evening, retrograding in Aquarius.
