Speaker: James Albury

Planetarium Director and host of the YouTube Series "The Sky Above Us"

Topic:  Music 360: Gustav Holst's-"The Planets"

Join us for an immersive journey of sight and sound as you experience the majesty of Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite “The Planets”, while visiting the planets of our Solar System. Gustav Holst wrote “The Planets” between 1914 and 1916 and each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst.

Using the planetarium’s sound system and state of the art simulation software, we will land on the surface of Mercury, fly through the canyons on Mars, and glide through the rings of Saturn; all while enjoying this seven-movement suite. So, prepare to be inspired like never before and experience our solar system in a whole new way!

Join James Albury, host of the YouTube astronomy program "The Sky Above Us" (TheSkyAboveUs.org), and 2011-2019 co-host of the PBS TV Show "Star Gazers", as he takes you on a personally guided tour of our night sky, using our GOTO Chronos Space Simulator. Florida Skies is our weekly star show that familiarizes you with some of the popular constellations visible from sunset to sunrise, as well as the stories behind them. We'll also show you how and where in the sky you can find the brightest planets.
