Big Shoals State Park - is a "GO"

Star Party & Outreach at Big Shoals. Big Shoals is near intersection of I-75 and I-10. Very dark skies. Observing field is about 1.5 miles from the parking area. Generator will provide power to telescopes.
 
Rangers will have visitors park at the Little Shoals entrance and are going to offer a hay wagon ride out to the site. Rangers will have a Kabota tractor available to take visitors to the bathroom during the event.

Visitor to sign up at Ranger station. A $10.00 fee to visitors for the rangers who are staying late.

Alachua Astronomy Club volunteers are welcome to stay as late as they like. Remember it is also a Star Party.

Preliminary Schedule
Telescope Setup: 5:30 pm
Sunset: 6:53 pm
Observing: 7:00pm -10:30pm for visitors AAC members can stay as long as they want.
PowerPoint talks on a 20 x 15 ft portable stage planned for 6:15-7:15pm.

"GO" or "NO GO" will be given at noon on day of event.

Directions:

-From Newberry Rd take I-75 North towards Lake City, approx 52 miles.

-Take exit 439 to FL-136-E also known as CR136E. Turn left on CR136E and go 2.9 miles

-Slight left onto Bridge St, go 459 feet

-Take 1st right onto CR-100 East also known as US41/Spring St go
.5 of a mile.

-Turn left onto CR135 also known as Suwanee St go 1.6 miles to LITTLE Shoals State Park entrance on right. Ranger will either take you or direct you to site on BIG Shoals State Park.
